Atlantic City's first casino opened in 1978 and songwriter Don Schlitz got his big break when Kenny Rogers recorded one of his songs. The song would become Don's first big hit as a songwriter. By the end of that year, Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler" would go all the way to No. 1 on the Billboard chart and give Don a Grammy award as the songwriter for Best Country Song.
